South Africa defeated Afghanistan by 107 runs in the third match of the Champions Trophy.
In the first match of Group B, the Afghan team was bowled out for 208 runs in pursuit of South Africa’s target of 316 runs.
Earlier, in the match played at the National Stadium in Karachi, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat.
South Africa’s first wicket fell for 28 runs and Tony de Zouzi returned to the pavilion for 11 runs. After them, Ryan Rickelton and Timba Bawuma continued the match in a steady manner and scored half-centuries, but Bawuma was caught by Mohammad Nabi at a total of 157, playing an innings of 58 runs. After that, Rickelton scored a brilliant century and was dismissed for 103 runs. Van der Duijsen and Aiden Markram batted responsibly and returned to the pavilion with 52 runs each.
South Africa scored 315 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi took two wickets, Fazal Haq Farooq, Azmatullah Omarzai and Noor Ahmed dismissed one player each.
On the other hand, the Afghan team’s innings started disappointingly in pursuit of South Africa’s target of 316 runs and the batting line-up faltered at the beginning. 4 Peters reached the pavilion for 50 runs, then Rahmat Shah stood at one end and kept scoring runs but wickets kept falling from the other end. The Afghan team was bundled out for 208 runs in the 44th over and thus faced a defeat by 107 runs.

Afghanistan’s Rahmat Shah stood out by scoring 90 runs. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada took 3 wickets, Leongi Ngiti and Wayne Mulder took 2 wickets each, while Marco Johnson and Keshav Maharaj took one wicket each.
